SAIT lauded for unique approach to applied research with CICan award

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) was celebrated twice for its commitment to applied research at the annual Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) annual conference held earlier this week in Ottawa.

SAIT is the Gold recipient of the CICan Applied Research Innovation Excellence Award. SAIT was recognized for its applied research partnerships created and fostered through Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS). These partnerships benefit hundreds of small to medium-sized enterprises each year, large companies, government organizations, industry associations and more.

Additionally, this unique SAIT department works with students every year, providing them with a career-ready education, industry
experience and entrepreneurship opportunities. SAIT holds the most research grants, on behalf of industry, of all the Colleges and Institutes in Canada.

During the CICan conference, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, MP and Minister of Science, presented SAIT with $100,625 in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) College and Community Innovation Program. The Applied Research Tools and Instrument (ARTI) Grant will support SAIT’s Green Building Technologies (GBT) research team.

The GBT research team will use these funds for specialized rainwater harvesting, testing and monitoring equipment. This equipment will be used by the research team to help improve the knowledge base of builders
and developers in Alberta, especially small and medium enterprises, in rainwater solutions. It will also help promote environmental awareness among companies, industry associations, governmental organizations and the public.

“SAIT is honoured to be the recipient of CICan’s Applied Research Innovation Excellence Award and equally pleased to receive additional funds from the Government of Canada supporting our Green Building Technologies research team. We are proud of our solution-focused research expertise. This leadership through collaboration enables our students, partners and researchers to take their innovative ideas and bring them to fruition.”

Dr. David Ross, SAIT President and CEO
