Tour SAIT’s Solar Lab

Image Green Building Technologies

On October 3 from 9am to 3pm, the GBTAC team is inviting the Calgary community to tour the SAIT solar lab (on the corner of 16th Avenue and 14th Street NW)  as part of Green Energy Doors Open (a province-wide showcase that features innovative energy projects).  In addition to door prizes, rain barrels from our guests at Green Calgary and locally-made honey from GBTAC researcher Aja Horsley (owner of Drizzle Local Honey) will be available for purchase.

Here are some fast facts about one of the features in our lab, the solar carport:

  • The carport is a timber-frame construction.
  • There are 10 photovolatic panels on the glass roof.
  • The carport has a capacity of 2.5 kW (kilowatts). In sunny Calgary, this size of solar array will deliver 3,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) per year of energy (half the electrical energy usage of most homes).

Register for this free event now! Visitors to the solar lab on October 3 can enter to win unique solar and SAIT-related prizes. Click here to view a map which highlights the location of the solar lab.
